Apologetics

Christian apologetics is a field of Christian theology that aims to present a rational basis for the Christian faith, defend the faith against objections, and expose the perceived flaws of other world views.[1] Christian apologetics have taken many forms over the centuries, starting with Paul of Tarsus, including writers such as Augustine of Hippo and Thomas Aquinas, and continuing currently with the modern Christian community, through the efforts of many authors in various Christian traditions such as C.S. Lewis. Apologists have based their defence of Christianity on historical evidence, philosophical arguments, scientific investigation, and other disciplines.

Who is man?

If we are to understand who man is, we must understand who God says man is. We where made in the image and likeness of God and we carry that in us. But since the first Sin against God we are fallen, seperated from him through our sin. We are broken therefore we are not inherently good and are in a perpetual conflict within ourselves.
Galatians 5:16-17
So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. 17For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.
19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. It is saying that man is Sinful, and when we need a Savior.
Even with the spirit dwelling within us we are still at conflict but we must not buy the alternate philosophies that says man is good and our ultimate objective is self actualization. We need to get in touch with our inner nature. Is Man inherently good? Does man have a propensity for evil? Culture today says no. From a Biblical worldview the scriptural truth says, Put to death your earthly nature.
Colossians 3:5-10
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.b 7You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator

The Biblical worldview is directly opposite of Cultures view? We need to look at the question of
who is man from both views to understand and be able to discern between them and rely on the truth of God to guide us and reveal who man is?

Jesus said I am the WAY the TRUTH and the LIFE. The "way" is two fold he gives us a Way to eternal life and a example of a Way to live, or conduct ourselves. If you study Galatians 5 paticularly verse 16-21 you'll find interesting the word "flesh" used by Paul in the greek "sarx" meaning the human body. However Paul takes it further to refer to the entire FALLEN HUMAN BEING. Paul often pitted the "flesh" against the "spirit" as being two opposing forces. Unbelievers in Christ can live only by the flesh you can argue, "Doesn't the flesh without Christ still have a spirit"? Yes the human spirit is there, it however is weakened by satan, who given free reign in our world by the continuing movement to remove God from every aspect of our life, and the cultural strides towards the things of this world which tell us its all about us, and money, and what feels good, immediate gratification etc.. so our spirit has no power against satan because God is absent from our everyday lives. So what next? We gain alot power over our "flesh" and spirit when we put our faith in Christ. John tells us when we do this Christ sends us His Spirit to live in us!! We as believers have the power to live in the Spirit or the Flesh. Now we have power the power of Gods Spirit!! and furthermore we are free from the things the flesh succommed too until this day and beyond by the forgiveness of sins. The inner conflict between the flesh and the spirit becomes very real to us now, because we now have a battle, and the power to fight that battle. The power of Christ in our spirit guides us but the habits of the flesh fights it. So if we are guided by the Spirit, Gods will in us, we can overcome, but keep in mind this battle is a tough one for all, and tougher for many!! Thank God for forgiveness when we often lose, but the losses should be slowly overcome by victory, and the battle become easier, but is never over until we come to His kingdom. It's my opinion that it's important to remember that we were created in God's image so our spirit is hardwired with a knowledge of right, and wrong even as an unbeliever. The flesh however as Nelsons Bible Commentary says directs us to the things of this world and directs our choices towards the the things WE KNOW WE SHOULD NOT DO. The knowing of these things have been diminished by a culture of self. Over time our morality levels have diminished which makes this battle even more difficult. What morality levels you ask? The truths of our bible, the basic principals, as it used to be said "the golden rule". The value of life has been diminished. The value of marriage. The value of God. The value of family. The value of sex, and abstinence. The value of others. And most importantly the value of love, etc.. etc.. I believe so many Christians with the power of the spirit of God fail because of my past statement. We have the power, but the fight has become so difficult because the standard has become so low. Lets face it it's harder to climb out of the Grand canyon then a ditch. Today Christians are climbing out of a Canyon, and many fail. That doesn't mean they don't know the truth. The truth of a Christian life they know more than one without the the knowledge of Christ. However knowing the truth means we are fighting the battle for whats good, and whats just, we fight it for Christ in us. We must fight to win. many will fail because they took their eyes off of Christ, it doesn't mean their Hypocrits! At least they went to battle, and lost. Many battles are lost in the flesh, and the spirit, but we should hold the warriors up dispite wether they have won or lost. Many don't even have the courage to fight. So call on Christ, and fight for your soul, and spirit today. Because in the end it doesn't matter wether you won or lost the battle because Christ wins the war, and all that fought will be saved, and reign in the greatest kingdom ever established. AND THAT'S THE TRUTH
